What Is Juicy Fruits?

Juicy Fruits is a fruit-themed 5x5 slot from Pragmatic Play, released March 25, 2021. It runs on 50 fixed paylines. The Crown Wild is the defining feature: it lands in the base game as a random-size block (1x1 through 5x5) and becomes a roaming Crown Wild during the free spins round. At the top: Lucky 7 and the Crown Wild pay identically - 1.0x for three, 5.0x for four, 24.0x for five. At $2.50 per spin, five Lucky 7s pays $60. Slotozilla explicitly confirms the "$60 when land in 5 (for $2.5 bet)" figure.

The clustering of four low symbols at one pay rate is what keeps base-game hit frequency relatively high. More combinations complete on the 50 lines because more symbol types share the same pay threshold.

The Crown Wild

The Crown Wild is the mechanic that separates Juicy Fruits from a standard 5x5 fruit slot.

In the base game it lands randomly as a solid block: 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, or 5x5. A 3x3 block in the center of the grid covers nine positions and completes paylines that would otherwise have missed. A full 5x5 block occupies every position - all 25 cells, all 50 paylines. The Crown Wild pays the same as Lucky 7, so each payline that completes through the wild contributes 24x at five-of-a-kind.

In the free spins round, the Crown Wild becomes a roaming wild. It moves each spin and grows in size each time three diamond scatters are collected: 1x1 grows to 2x2, then 3x3, 4x4, and finally 5x5. At maximum size it covers the full grid. There are no win multipliers - the coverage is what drives the math, not a multiplier on each pay.

The 5000x theoretical maximum requires the Crown Wild to reach 5x5 during free spins, combined with optimal symbol positioning across all 50 paylines. In 1,717 spins, my best free spins bonus returned 102.92x. The gap between that and 5000x is where the deep variance lives.

My session high of 168.4x came from a base-game Crown Wild landing, not from a bonus round. A large block dropping in the base game can outperform a full bonus round when the symbol positioning works in its favor.

Free Spins: Six Spins and the Crown Wild

Three or more Diamond scatters anywhere on the 5x5 grid trigger free spins. The round starts at 6 free spins. A roaming Crown Wild is present for every spin in the feature from the start, beginning at 1x1.

The retrigger is what separates a 4x and a 102x bonus. During free spins, diamond scatters still land on the reels. Every three scatters collected does two things: adds 1 to 3 extra spins and upgrades the Crown Wild one size. The collection meter above the grid tracks progress toward the next upgrade.

Time2play reports the maximum achievable is around 18 free spins in a single run, with up to four retrigger opportunities. In my 1,717-spin session, every one of the 10 bonus rounds included at least one retrigger. The best bonus ran 11 free spins with 2 retriggers and returned 102.92x at $2.50. The worst ran 8 spins with one retrigger and returned 4.48x. That spread between 4.48x and 102.92x is what this mechanic actually produces.

One observation from the feature: the audio changes when free spins trigger. The base game's cocktail-lounge arrangement cuts away and something with more drive replaces it. After the first couple of triggers I stopped looking for the scatter count and started listening for that audio shift as the first signal that the feature had fired.

Ante Bet and Buy Bonus

Two feature-access options sit on a vertical panel to the left of the reels. Both are there from first load, outside the main control bar at the bottom of the screen.

Ante Bet adds 20% to each spin's cost and increases how often Diamond scatters land. At $2.50 per spin, Ante Bet pushes each spin to $3.00. It is designed for markets where direct bonus purchase is restricted - some licensed operators offer Ante Bet while blocking Buy Bonus entirely.

Buy Bonus costs 100x your current bet - $250 at $2.50 - and takes you directly into a free spins round. The condition: Ante Bet must be off before Buy Bonus becomes available. Activate Ante Bet and the Buy Bonus button disappears from the left panel immediately. The UI enforces this without any confirmation step.

The cost-versus-return math on Buy Bonus: my 10 bonuses in this session averaged around 40x total return each. Two bonuses above 90x and one above 70x lifted that average significantly. The other seven ranged from 4.48x to 61.40x. Buying the feature at 100x with those seven outcomes would have produced consistent losses. Buy Bonus is a session pacing tool, not a return-positive play over time.

Ten free spins triggers in 1,717 spins put this on the fortunate side. From other High volatility Pragmatic Play titles I have tested, that trigger rate felt ahead of typical. Every single bonus included at least one retrigger. That is why the top four payouts in this session were all 2-retrigger rounds.

The best bonus of the session came around spin 757: 11 free spins played, 2 retriggers, 102.92x total at $2.50. The worst came around spin 1,468: 8 spins, one retrigger, 4.48x. That range is what this mechanic actually delivers across a real session.

The session high at 168.4x did not come from free spins. It came from a large Crown Wild landing in the base game. I did not see a full 5x5 Crown Wild land in the base game during 1,717 spins - the block that produced the session high was a 4x4 or 3x3, and symbol alignment happened to work well on that spin.

The base hit rate of about 24% is higher than I expected for a game rated High volatility. The longest cold stretch I tracked was 22 consecutive spins without any win.

Juicy Fruits vs. Fat Rabbit (Push Gaming). Fat Rabbit uses a narrower grid than the 5x5 here - same core mechanic, the wild grows through a scatter-collection round. The difference is scope: 50 lines on a 5x5 grid means more paylines resolve per spin than Push Gaming's original format. If the structure felt familiar when I loaded Juicy Fruits, that's why.

Juicy Fruits vs. Chicken Chase (Pragmatic Play). Chicken Chase is the same 5x5 engine from Pragmatic - Crown Wild feature, retrigger-driven bonus, no multipliers. I have played both and they feel close enough that my notes from one session transferred directly to understanding the other. The themes are different. The math is the same job.
